Job summary

PARKROYAL Monash Melbourne is seeking a permanent part-time Commis Chef to join our Ginger restaurant team. Reporting to the Executive Chef, you will assist with preparation and presentation of dishes, support during service, and help maintain a clean, well-organised kitchen.

Ideal candidates have experience in a commercial kitchen, a Cookery qualification (Certificate II/III), and a passion for delivering great guest experiences.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a commercial kitchen is desirable.
• Certificate II/III Cookery completed or in progress.
• A genuine passion for food and delivering great guest experiences.
• Willingness to learn, take direction and develop culinary skills.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in producing quality food.
• Ability to work productively and safely in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation and presentation of à la carte dishes, ensuring quality and consistency standards are met.
• Support the kitchen team to ensure timely and accurate delivery of orders during service.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and well-stocked work area at all times.
• Assist with food preparation, portioning, stock rotation, and storage procedures.
• Follow all health, safety, and hygiene regulations and company standards.
• Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to deliver exceptional dining experiences for guests.
• Learn and develop culinary skills through hands‑on experience and guidance from senior chefs.
• Assist with receiving, storing, and managing kitchen supplies as required.

PARKROYAL Monash Melbourne is currently looking to appoint a permanent part-time Commis Chef. Reporting to the Executive Chef, the successful Commis Chef will be part of a passionate and supportive kitchen team, helping to create memorable dining experiences for our guests at our restaurant; Ginger.

The Role:

Assist with the preparation and presentation of à la carte dishes, ensuring quality and consistency standards are met.

Ideally you will have:

Previous experience in a commercial kitchen, café, restaurant, hotel, or hospitality environment is desirable

Relevant qualifications in Cookery (Certificate II or III, completed or currently undertaking) and a basic understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.

A genuine passion for food, cooking, and delivering great guest experiences.

A willingness to learn, take direction, and develop your culinary skills.

Strong attention to detail and pride in producing quality food.

Ability to work productively and safely in a fast‑paced team environment.

The flexibility to work on a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays.

Afternoon/night and weekend availability is essential.
