Job summary

Southern NSW Local Health District is seeking a Clinical Nursing Unit Manager to lead the Emergency Department at Blacktown Hospital. You will provide clinical leadership, manage operations and drive safe patient flow in a busy ED.

You will oversee staffing, performance development and quality improvements while working closely with senior clinicians and a multidisciplinary team. The role requires registration as a nurse with AHPRA and relevant emergency leadership experience.

Qualifications

• Must hold or be working towards a post-registration qualification in emergency/critical care or nursing management, or have a minimum 5 year post registration experience in Emergency Medicine.

Lead, manage and improve Emergency Department nursing services, patient flow and care delivery at Blacktown Hospital.

• Hours Per Week: 38 (Job share may be considered for part time hours)

What you'll be doing

As the Clinical Nurse Unit Manager, you'll provide clinical leadership and operational management across the Emergency Department. You'll balance patient safety, workforce needs and patient flow while supporting your team to deliver evidence-based, high-quality nursing care.

• Lead, coordinate and supervise nursing staff, including performance development, clinical supervision and professional development
• Oversee day-to-day nursing operations, workforce allocation, resources and environmental safety
• Monitor patient access and flow, including transfer of care, Emergency Performance Targets, audits and quality activities
• Lead clinical practice, service improvement and organisational change initiatives
• Support recruitment, induction, performance management and leadership development across the nursing team

Registration: Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse, Division 1, with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

Selection Criteria

• Must hold or be working towards a post-registration qualification in emergency/critical care or nursing management, or have a minimum 5 year post registration experience in Emergency Medicine.
• Demonstrated understanding of the different Emergency Department's models of care and an understanding of the Emergency Key Performance Indicators including Emergency Treatment Performance (ETP).
• Demonstrated skill in the analysis of complex issues, problem-solving, formulating new approaches and implementing strategies, including the ability to develop and monitor outcomes.
• Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with other healthcare workers, clients and carers.
• Excellent time management and organisation skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and use initiative.
• Demonstrated understanding of managing nursing and resource allocations to deliver effective and efficient care.
• Understanding of the management of patient complaints and patient privacy.
