Job summary

Southern NSW Local Health District is seeking a Clinical Nursing Unit Manager for Mount Druitt Hospital's Emergency Department to lead nursing teams, optimise patient flow and ensure safe, high‑quality care.

You will drive workforce planning, clinical governance and process improvement in a fast‑paced ED, collaborating with senior clinicians and multidisciplinary teams while supporting staff development and patient-centred care.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership and oversee the day-to-day coordination of nursing services, ensuring patients receive safe, high-quality care throughout their Emergency Department journey.
• Lead, coordinate and supervise nursing staff, including development and clinical support.
• Monitor workforce allocation, service delivery and resource utilisation.
• Promote evidence-based practice, quality improvement and clinical safety.
• Support patient flow initiatives, performance targets, audits and service reporting.
• Lead change and improvement initiatives that strengthen nursing care and service outcomes.
• Registration: Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse, Division 1, with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

What you'll be doing

Selection Criteria

Must hold or be working towards a post-registration qualification in emergency/critical care or nursing management, or have a minimum 5 years post registration experience in Emergency Medicine.

Demonstrated understanding of the different Emergency Department's models of care and an understanding of the Emergency Key Performance Indicators including Emergency Treatment Performance (ETP).

Demonstrated skill in the analysis of complex issues, problem-solving, formulating new approaches and implementing strategies, including the ability to develop and monitor outcomes.

Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with other healthcare workers, clients and carers.

Excellent time management and organisation skills with attention to detail.

Ability to work with minimal supervision and use initiative.

Demonstrated understanding of managing nursing and resource allocations to deliver effective and efficient care.

Understanding of the management of patient complaints and patient privacy.
