Job summary

Norwest Private Hospital seeks a Clinical Coding Manager to lead a high-performing coding team onsite at the Bella Vista campus. You will provide leadership, drive quality, ensure accuracy and compliance, and collaborate with the Chief Health Information Manager in HIS leadership.

You will mentor staff, monitor KPIs, drive best-practice coding standards and contribute to education and service improvement within a supportive hospital environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level health information management qualification required or equivalent.
  • Eligibility for HIMAA membership preferred.
  • Significant clinical coding leadership experience in acute healthcare.

Lead, Inspire and Drive Excellence in Clinical Coding

Are you an experienced Health Information Manager (HIM) or Clinical Coding Leader looking for your next leadership opportunity? Join the team at Norwest Private Hospital, where you'll play a pivotal role in leading a high-performing Clinical Coding team within a supportive, collaborative and flexible work environment.

About the Role

As the Clinical Coding Manager, you will provide leadership and operational oversight of the Clinical Coding service, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards. Working closely with the Chief Health Information Manager, you will also contribute to the broader management of the Health Information Services (HIS) department.

This is an onsite role, Monday to Friday, based at our Bella Vista campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, support and mentor the Clinical Coding team to deliver a high-quality coding service.
  • Monitor coding performance, productivity and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and best‑practice coding standards.
  • Foster a culture of learning through training, coaching and professional development.
  • Assist the Chief HIM in the overall management and strategic direction of the Health Information Services department.
About You

To succeed in this role, you will bring extensive clinical coding expertise, proven leadership capabilities, and a genuine passion for developing people and driving quality outcomes.

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Health Information Management) or equivalent qualification.
  • Eligibility for membership with the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA).
  • Significant experience in clinical coding within an acute healthcare environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in clinical coding standards and classifications.
  • Previous experience leading and managing coding staff.
  • Strong IT and health information systems proficiency.
  • Sound understanding of private health funding models and activity‑based funding.
