Job summary

Hunter New England Health is seeking experienced Clinical Coders to join the John Hunter Hospital team in Newcastle. These permanent opportunities offer full or part-time hours with flexible options and supportive leadership, coding complex casemix using ICD-10-AM/ACHI to Australian Coding Standards.

Selected applicants will code episodes across major tertiary services, be trained with ongoing education, and work in a collaborative environment with face-to-face and remote options.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of recognised ICD-10-AM & ACHI coding qualifications with Australian coding experience.
  • Experience with Australian Coding Standards and coding practices.

Responsibilities

  • Code episodes for John Hunter, Belmont, and Tomaree hospitals with diverse and complex casemix.
  • Ensure coding aligns with ICD-10-AM, ACHI, and Australian Coding Standards; address queries and quality indicators.
  • Participate in remote work options if eligible and appropriate.

John Hunter Hospital is a Level 6, tertiary referral, major trauma and teaching hospital and is the largest hospital in the Hunter New England Local Health District. You will be joining a team of dedicated Clinical Coders at John Hunter Hospital. On commencement, you will be provided with face-to-face and online training. About the role

We have a number of newly created permanent opportunites for an experienced Clinical Coder with demonstrated accuracy, productivity rate, and knowledge and experience of the Australian Coding Standards to join our skilled team on a full or part-time basis.

You will code episodes for John Hunter, Belmont, and Tomaree hospitals coding a varied and complex Casemix with John Hunter Hospital being a Major Tertiary referral centre for Trauma in Northern NSW, including all surgical specialities along with one of the three tertiary Paediatric Hospitals in NSW.

You will be coding patient records using the current version of ICD-10-AM in line with the Australian Coding Standards and correcting clinical coding errors, queries, and quality indicators (PICQ), as directed.

Remote working may be considered for applicants working within Australia with a minimum 3+ years experience.

About you
  • You are an experienced Clinical Coder looking to join a cohesive and dynamic team.
  • You will be dedicated, and hardworking with excellent attention to detail.
  • You understand the importance of applying the principles of confidentiality, privacy, and security within the medical environment.
  • You will have demonstrated experience and competence in clinical classification using IC10 AM & ACHI and a thorough understanding and experience with Australian Coding Standards with competent keyboard skills and experience using Microsoft Windows programs.
Requirements
  • Clinical Coder (Administration Officer Level 5) - Successful completion of a recognised ICD-10AM & ACHI and Australian Coding Standards coding qualification with Australian coding experience.
  • Senior Clinical Coder (Administration Officer Level 6) - Successful completion of a recognised clinical coding course and willingness to undertake an Advanced qualification or have experience across a broad range of specialties with Australian coding experience.
  • Senior Advanced Clinical Coder (Health Manager Level 1) - Successful completion of a recognised clinical coding course at an Advanced level or extensive experience across a broad range of specialties or relevant tertiary qualification in Health Information Management with Australian coding experience.

A skills test will be undertaken at the interview to gauge the coding level and grading level of the applicant.
