Job summary

Shoalhaven City Council is seeking a dedicated professional to ensure safety, compliance and integrity of cemeteries, monuments and related infrastructure. You will conduct inspections, manage risks, maintain records and coordinate monument applications, working closely with families and funeral directors.

Applicants must hold a Certificate III in related field, WHS cards, and a MR licence, with strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of relevant legislation and standards relating to cemetery management and monument safety.
• Ability to assess structural stability (training can be provided).
• Experience working with families, funeral directors and other stakeholders in bereavement services.
• Strong record keeping, reporting and organisational skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills in a sensitive environment.
• Commitment to safe work practices and WHS requirements.
• Current National WHS Construction Card (WorkCover).
• Class MR Driver's Licence.
• Proof of right to work in Australia.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections of monuments, cemetery infrastructure and trees to identify safety risks and compliance issues.
• Assess and manage risks, coordinate maintenance and repairs, and implement make-safe measures.
• Maintain cemetery registers, inspection records, compliance documentation and the PlotBox database.
• Coordinate monument applications, approvals and construction inspections, liaise with monument masons and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, standards and Council policies relating to cemetery operations and monument safety.
• Liaise professionally with families, funeral directors and other stakeholders.
