Job summary

Shoalhaven City Council invites applications for a Bereavement Services Supervisor - Operations. This hands-on leadership role oversees burial, cremation and cemetery services, ensuring safety, dignity and regulatory compliance across facilities in the Shoalhaven area.

You will supervise staff, coordinate services, manage records and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. A compassionate, organised leader with strong communication skills is essential.

Qualifications

• Cert IV in Construction, Building, Leadership Management, or a minimum of five (5) years supervisory experience in construction, cemetery, crematorium or facility management or related activity with a combination of practical experience, coordination or staff and administration of project work
• Current MR (NSW) Driver's Licence
• Current NSW Construction / induction Certificate
• Workcover accredited, hazardous goods and workplace substances (or willing to obtain within the first three (3) months)
• Proven recent experience as an Excavator Operator
• Safe Graves (NSW) Accredited Training or equivalent (or ability to obtain within 3 - 6 months of commencement)
• Proof of right to work in Australia

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support the Bereavement Services team, providing leadership, guidance and operational direction.
• Coordinate the delivery of burial, cremation, interment and memorial services, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
• Communicate professionally and compassionately with families, funeral directors, clergy and members of the public.
• Oversee cemetery grounds, buildings and infrastructure maintenance to ensure a safe, respectful and compliant environment.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives, operational planning and service delivery outcomes.
• Prepare reports, maintain records and provide recommendations to support operational and strategic decision-making.
• Ensure high standards of customer service, workplace safety and regulatory compliance across all bereavement services activities.
