Job summary

Southern Cross Care Queensland is seeking a Catering Assistant to support the preparation, plating and service of nutritious meals for residents. You will operate within a dedicated Hospitality team, maintaining a clean, safe kitchen and delivering meals with care in accordance with Food Safety Program requirements.

You will contribute to a positive dining experience, attend required training and follow established procedures while supporting residents’ health and wellbeing through high-quality

Qualifications

• Compassion and respect when caring for older people.
• Experience in aged care, hospital, or commercial kitchen is highly regarded.
• Solid knowledge of food safety and safe handling practices.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage time well.
• Strong teamwork and communication in a busy kitchen.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Assist with food and vegetable preparation and sandwich prep.
• Plate food and ensure meals are ready for service on time.
• Wash dishes and keep kitchen equipment, utensils and surfaces clean.
• Maintain a safe, clean kitchen environment and proper waste disposal.
• Complete basic meal records with the Chief Cook.
• Identify and report safety, quality or maintenance concerns.
• Adhere to Food Safety, infection control and WHS policies.
• Participate in required training and follow procedures.

About the role

Working as a Catering Assistant, you will support the preparation, plating and service of nutritious and high-quality meals for our residents in accordance with Food Safety Program requirements.

As part of our dedicated Hospitality team, you will help create a positive and enjoyable dining experience for our residents while maintaining a clean, safe and hygienic kitchen environment. Your contribution will support the health, wellbeing and daily experience of our residents by ensuring meals are prepared and served with care and to a high standard.

What are the key responsibilities?

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Assisting with food and vegetable preparation, including sandwich preparation.
• Plating food and ensuring meals are prepared and ready for service on time.
• Washing dishes and maintaining kitchen equipment, appliances, utensils and work areas in a clean and hygienic condition.
• Maintaining a safe, clean and tidy kitchen environment, including appropriate waste disposal.
• Completing basic meal records in consultation with the Chief Cook.
• Identifying and reporting incidents, hazards, maintenance concerns and quality issues as required.
• Complying with Food Safety, Infection Control, Workplace Health and Safety and quality requirements at all times.
• Participating in required training and following established work practices and procedures.
