Little Gordon Café in Melbourne’s CBD is seeking an experienced chef or cook to lead the kitchen, prepare breakfast and lunch, and support the front-of-house team with fresh, consistent dishes.

The role involves independent kitchen operations Wednesday through Sunday, 7am–3pm, with friendly, small-team dynamics and opportunities to introduce new menu ideas in a vibrant café setting.

Responsabilités

• Run the kitchen independently during breakfast and lunch service.
• Prepare grab-and-go items, sandwiches and other menu favourites for FOH.
• Manage daily food preparation, ordering and stock control.
• Maintain high food safety and kitchen hygiene standards.

• Collaborate with FOH team to deliver a seamless guest experience.

Working Wednesday to Sunday, 7am–3pm, you'll be responsible for running our kitchen, delivering delicious breakfast and lunch offerings and preparing food for our front-of-house team to serve throughout the day.

Key responsibilities

• Running the kitchen independently during breakfast and lunch service
• Preparing grab-and-go items, sandwiches, toasties and other menu favourites for our FOH team
• Managing daily food preparation, ordering and stock control
• Maintaining excellent food safety, hygiene and kitchen standards
• Minimising food waste through smart preparation and efficient ingredient use
• Working closely with our friendly FOH team to deliver a seamless guest experience
• Bringing fresh ideas and creativity to our evolving menu

About you

• Has experience as a chef or experienced cook in a busy café environment
• Is confident running a small kitchen independently
• Is organised, efficient and comfortable managing their own workload
• Understands food costs, portion control and minimising waste
• Takes pride in preparing simple, delicious food consistently
• Has a positive attitude and enjoys being part of a small, friendly team
• Is available Wednesday through Sunday, 7am–3pm
• Consistent hours: Five days per week, Wednesday to Sunday
• Work-life balance: No late nights or split shifts, with Mondays and Tuesdays off
