Your Opportunity

As a Case Manager within the Safe Steps service in Geraldton, you will play a pivotal role in delivering specialised, trauma-informed support to individuals, children, and young people experiencing or at risk of family and domestic violence. This is an on‑site position that involves working under general supervision while exercising initiative, sound judgement, and independence in managing complex and sensitive cases. You will guide clients through some of the most challenging periods of their lives, offering psychosocial support, safety planning, advocacy, and structured case management tailored to their individual needs. The role requires a compassionate yet highly professional approach, working closely with families, schools, community resources, and inter‑regional team members to strengthen support networks and promote long‑term safety and wellbeing. Your work will contribute to empowering clients, especially children and young people, to heal, build resilience, and regain confidence through practical assistance, therapeutic interventions, and education around healthy relationships. In this role, you will maintain accurate case records, uphold strict privacy standards, collaborate with external service providers, and participate in continuous learning and development. With opportunities for mentoring, interregional connection, and meaningful community impact, the role offers personal and professional growth while helping create lasting positive change.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma informed, culturally safe, non clinical psychosocial support to children and young people aged 12 to 25 years who are experiencing or have been exposed to family and domestic violence.

  • Deliver end to end case management, including intake, assessment of suitability, development of holistic and strengths based case plans, and regular review of progress against goals.

  • Manage an active caseload and develop, implement and review individualised case management and safety plans that support clients to achieve their goals and improve their wellbeing.

  • Conduct home visits, office based appointments and outreach in safe community settings, ensuring client safety and wellbeing while maintaining a trauma informed approach.

  • Provide advocacy, practical assistance and referrals to appropriate services, including support with housing, Centrelink, Medicare and other key supports.

  • Apply an understanding of the intersection between disability and family and domestic violence, recognising barriers that may impact a person's ability to identify, disclose or respond to violence and access support.

  • Promote access and inclusion by building relationships with local disability organisations, increasing awareness of the service and strengthening referral pathways for people living with disability.

  • Maintain accurate, timely and confidential client records, including case notes, reports, data entry, safety plans and case management documentation in line with organisational and legislative requirements.

Requirements for Success

  • A Degree or Diploma in Social Welfare, Social Science, Youth Work, Community Services, or related field, with at least one to two years of experience in family and domestic violence, youth work, or case management.

  • Demonstrated trauma‑informed practice capability, including experience supporting children and young people exposed to FDV, and the ability to quickly and effectively assess client needs.

  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, protocols, and community dynamics, with the ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal young people, families, and communities.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with adaptability to diverse audiences, and confidence working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Local knowledge, established community connections, and the ability to build strong networks across services, schools, families, and cultural groups.

  • High level of resilience, flexibility, and innovation, with confidence navigating ambiguity and complexity while maintaining professional judgement and boundaries.

  • Strong administrative, organisational, and report‑writing skills, including accurate data entry, time management, and the ability to manage a caseload of 15–20 clients over longer‑term engagement periods.
