Job summary

SGR Roofing National Pty Ltd in Redcliffe, QLD, is seeking a skilled carpenter for a full-time permanent role. You will perform timber framing, roofing, and carpentry tasks to a high standard, following drawings, codes, and safety rules.

The position requires AQF III/IV or equivalent experience. You will review plans, select materials, cut and fit timber, construct frames, fascia, and cladding, and work both independently and as part of a workshop team.

Qualifications

• AQF Certificate III or IV qualification or equivalent.
• At least three years of relevant experience as an alternative to formal qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Reviews drawings and specifications to identify materials, dimensions and installation methods.
• Sources and selects timber and materials, and prepares layout plans.
• Cuts materials and assembles, nails, and shapes components.
• Constructs frameworks, roof structures, sub-floors, and floorboards, ensuring level and aligned structures.
• Installs fascia panels, roof sheathing, external cladding, and frames for doors and windows.
• Assembles prefabricated wooden components for installation.
• Creates wooden joints for structural connections.
• May build concrete formwork for construction.
• May carry out repairs on existing fixtures and fittings.

Location: Redcliffe QLD 4020

Employment type: Full-time, permanent — approximately 38 ordinary hours per week, with overtime available

Remuneration: $79,000 – $110,000 per annum, exclusive of superannuation, plus compulsory superannuation and any applicable penalty rates, overtime and allowances

Applicable award: Building and Construction General On-site Award 2020 [MA000020]

Skills and attributes

• Strong, demonstrated experience in carpentry, including timber framing, installation, repairs, and general carpentry work.
• Ability to carry out carpentry work in accordance with recognised industry standards, building codes, and safety requirements, with relevant trade qualifications or the ability to obtain them.
• Ability to read and correctly interpret construction plans, technical drawings, and specifications, and accurately measure, cut, assemble, and install materials accordingly.
• Good understanding of measuring, marking out, cutting, shaping, and preparing timber and other construction materials for carpentry work.
• Sound knowledge of, and commitment to, workplace health and safety practices, including the safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a construction or workshop team.
