Job summary

SGR Roofing National Pty Ltd is seeking a skilled Carpenter for a full-time, permanent role in Redcliffe, QLD. The successful candidate will construct, install, renovate and repair wooden structures and fixtures, reading plans and ensuring safety compliance.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Review drawings to identify materials, dimensions, and installation methods.
• Source timber and materials and prepare layout plans.
• Cut, assemble, nail, and shape components for structures.
• Build frameworks, roof structures, sub-floors, and floorboards to ensure alignment.
• Install fascia, roof sheathing, external cladding and door/window frames.
• Assemble prefabricated wooden components for installation.
• Create wooden joints for structural connections.
• Repair fixtures and fittings as needed.

Skills and attributes

• Strong, demonstrated experience in carpentry, including timber framing, installation, repairs, and general carpentry work.
• Ability to carry out carpentry work in accordance with recognised industry standards, building codes, and safety requirements, with relevant trade qualifications or the ability to obtain them.
• Ability to read and correctly interpret construction plans, technical drawings, and specifications, and accurately measure, cut, assemble, and install materials accordingly.
• Good understanding of measuring, marking out, cutting, shaping, and preparing timber and other construction materials for carpentry work.
• Sound knowledge of, and commitment to, workplace health and safety practices, including the safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a construction or workshop team.

Benefits

This is a full-time position of approximately 38 ordinary hours per week, with overtime available. The remuneration for the role is $79,000 – $110,000 per annum, exclusive of superannuation, together with compulsory superannuation and any penalty rates, overtime and allowances payable under the Building and Construction General On-site Award 2020 [MA000020].

About the role

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Carpenter to join our workshop on a full-time, ongoing basis. The successful applicant will build, installs, renovates, and repairs wooden structures and fixtures, as well as those made from plywood, wallboard, and other materials.

Key duties and responsibilities

• Reviews drawings and specifications to identify required materials, dimensions, and installation methods.
• Sources and selects timber and materials, and prepares layout plans.
• Cuts materials and assembles, nails, and shapes components.
• Constructs frameworks, roof structures, sub-floors, and floorboards, ensuring structures are level and aligned.
• Installs fascia panels, roof sheathing, external cladding and frames for doors and windows.
• Assembles prefabricated wooden components for installation.
• Creates wooden joints for structural connections.
• May build concrete formwork for construction.
• May carry out repairs on existing fixtures and fittings.
• May work with alternative materials like plastic laminates, acrylic (Perspex), and metal components.

Qualifications

• A relevant AQF Certificate III or AQF Certificate IV qualification
• At least three (3) years of relevant experience as an alternative to formal qualifications.
