Job summary

Wilmar Sugar Australia Limited invites applications for a Cane Rail Labourer based at Pioneer Mill in North Queensland's Burdekin region. You’ll support track, bridge and civil construction activities, including earthworks, track laying and the operation of maintenance equipment.

During crushing, the role operates on a continuous rotating day shift roster, with weekends and overtime possible, switching to a day work schedule during maintenance periods.

Qualifications

• Experience in civil construction and maintenance of cane rail infrastructure.
• Strong safety focus and basic computer proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a small team to maintain and repair cane rail infrastructure.
• Operate vehicles and equipment safely.
• Perform rail maintenance including sleeper replacement, track straightening, ballast packing and rail joining.
• Maintain turnouts, tools, equipment and work areas to ensure safe and efficient operations.
• Carry out basic metal cutting, cane rail bridge work and other duties as directed.
• Support and assist during derailments across the Burdekin region.

Job description

As a Cane Rail Labourer at Wilmar Sugar and Renewables, you’ll support track, bridge, and civil construction and maintenance activities, including earthworks, track laying, and the operation of maintenance equipment.
This permanent position is based at Pioneer Mill in North Queensland's Burdekin region, known for its stunning landscapes, rich agricultural heritage, and a vibrant community. The Burdekin region offers a fantastic lifestyle with a warm climate, beautiful beaches and a range of recreational activities, making it a great place to live and work.
During the crushing, this position operates on a continuous rotating day shift roster, which may include weekends and occasional overtime. Once the crushing is complete and the Mill enters the maintenance period, the role switches to a day work schedule.

Your Role in Action

• Work as part of a small team to maintain and repair cane rail infrastructure.
• Operate vehicles and equipment safely.
• Perform rail maintenance including sleeper replacement, track straightening, ballast packing and rail joining.

We are seeking candidates with experience in civil construction, strong communication skills, basic computer proficiency, and a keen focus on safety.
