Job summary

Dahlia Homes in Canberra is seeking a Casual Disability Support Worker to assist participants with high complex behavioral and mental health needs. The role focuses on person-centered care, daily living support, and community participation within the Greater Canberra Area.

You will follow individualized plans, promote independence, and work as part of a multidisciplinary team, with shifts that may include evenings, weekends, and sleepovers as required.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting people with complex behaviours, psychosocial disabilities, or mental health conditions, including de-escalation, crisis response, and trauma-aware support.
• Strong skills in relationship-building, communication, and teamwork, with the ability to collaborate effectively with participants, families, and multidisciplinary professionals.
• Knowledge of NDIS frameworks, person-centered practice, and positive behaviour support principles, with commitment to rights-based, inclusive care.
• Capability to assist with daily living tasks such as personal care, domestic duties, and community participation, while promoting independence and safety.
• Competence in record-keeping, incident reporting, and using digital tools for documentation and communication.
• Relevant qualification in disability, community services, mental health, or a related field (e.g., Certificate III/IV or higher), or equivalent experience.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification, Working With Vulnerable People check (or ability to obtain), and any required police or background checks.
• Ability to work flexible shifts (including evenings, weekends, and sleepovers as required) and to travel within the Greater Canberra Area.

Responsibilities

• Support community access and domestic duties; monitor wellbeing and document progress.
