Job summary

Mermaid Beach AEME SLSC Supporters Club is seeking an experienced Cafe Manager / Duty Manager to join our team on a full-time basis at our beachfront venue in Mermaid Beach, QLD 4218. You will lead cafe operations, manage staff, ensure food safety and customer service excellence, and collaborate on menus and promotions.

Qualifications

• Experience in a supervisory/management role within hospitality or café.
• Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene regulations (Queensland).
• Excellent leadership and team management skills.
• Experience with POS systems and café operating procedures.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work weekends and public holidays.
• Current Food Safety Supervisor certification or willingness to obtain.
• RSA certification desirable.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage café staff during shifts, including scheduling, training, and performance management
• Oversee daily café operations, including food preparation, service delivery, and customer service excellence
• Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health regulations at all times
• Manage inventory control, stock ordering, and supplier relationships to maintain optimal stock levels
• Handle point-of-sale systems and reconcile cash and card transactions at end of shift
• Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised café environment
• Assist with the development and implementation of café menus and promotional activities
• Perform general duty manager responsibilities including venue security checks and emergency procedures when required

About the role

Mermaid Beach AEME SLSC Supporters Club is seeking an experienced Cafe Manager / Duty Manager to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a key operational position based at our beachfront venue in Mermaid Beach, QLD 4218. In this role, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of our café, ensuring exceptional service delivery, maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene, and creating a welcoming environment for our members and guests. You will be responsible for team leadership, stock management, financial performance, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. This position is integral to the success of our hospitality operations and directly contributes to the overall member experience at our club.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and manage café staff during shifts, including scheduling, training, and performance management
• Oversee daily café operations, including food preparation, service delivery, and customer service excellence
• Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health regulations at all times
• Manage inventory control, stock ordering, and supplier relationships to maintain optimal stock levels

What we’re looking for

• Proven experience in a supervisory or management role within the hospitality or café industry
• Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and relevant legislation (such as Queensland food safety requirements)
• Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff
• Experience with point-of-sale systems and café operating procedures
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Ability to work flexibly, including weekends and public holidays
• Problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to operational challenges
• Current Food Safety Supervisor certification or willingness to obtain certification
• RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) certification is desirable
• Knowledge of club operations and community-focused hospitality is advantageous
