Own and grow your own portfolio of customers and project opportunities
About Chadwick Switchboards
Chadwick Switchboards is an established Australian manufacturer of custom low-voltage electrical switchboards, with more than 80 years of industry experience. We work with electrical contractors, consultants, builders and project customers to deliver engineered solutions across commercial, industrial, infrastructure and major-project environments.
As part of our continued growth, we're looking for an experienced Business Development Manager who understands technical, project-based electrical sales.
The role
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, you'll develop new business and grow existing customer relationships across the Sydney and NSW market. This is a hands‑on, customer‑facing individual contributor role with clear personal sales targets, not a desk‑based account‑management position.
You'll manage the full sales process, from opportunity identification and scoping through to pricing, negotiation and close. You'll work closely with our Estimating team on quotations, while taking commercial responsibility for pricing strategy, margin and conversion.
Your responsibilities
Develop and manage your own portfolio of existing and prospective customers
Win new business with electrical contractors, consultants, builders and other project stakeholders
Manage opportunities from enquiry through to quotation, negotiation, order and handover
Review drawings, specifications and scopes, and develop bid strategies for significant projects
Own the commercial progression of your quotes, including pricing, margin, qualifications, exclusions and risk
Follow up quotations and drive opportunities to a commercial outcome
Identify upcoming projects and create opportunities before they reach formal tender
Maintain an accurate sales pipeline, CRM and forecast
Coordinate professional handovers to Engineering, Project Management and Production
Achieve agreed sales‑order, invoiced‑revenue, gross‑margin and customer‑activity targets
Represent Chadwick in customer meetings, site visits and industry engagement
About you
At least 5 years' experience in technical, project-based or engineered‑solution sales
Relevant background in electrical switchboards, switchgear, low‑voltage power distribution, electrical contracting, or industrial or commercial electrical projects
A proven record of growing customer accounts and winning project opportunities
Ability to read electrical drawings, specifications, scopes and single‑line diagrams
Strong negotiation skills, with a sound understanding of pricing, margins, tender risk, qualifications and exclusions
Disciplined use of CRM, pipeline, forecasting and quotation follow‑up
Unrestricted permanent working rights in Australia and a current Australian driver licence
Highly regarded: direct switchboard or switchgear sales experience, manufacturer experience, existing NSW relationships with contractors, consultants or builders, an electrical trade or engineering qualification, and experience selling into data‑centre, infrastructure or commercial‑construction projects.
Sell engineered, high‑value solutions rather than commodity products
Genuine involvement in customer strategy, major bids and pricing
Work directly with senior management and experienced technical teams
Competitive base salary, superannuation, car allowance and performance‑based incentive
Location: Primarily based at our Smithfield facility, with regular customer meetings and site visits across metropolitan Sydney and NSW.
