Job summary

Upper Hunter Shire Council is looking for a Building Surveyor to assess applications, certify buildings and conduct inspections across the Shire. You’ll advise on building, plumbing and drainage requirements, and work with customers to resolve questions with practical solutions.

This permanent, full-time position offers a 35-hour week, competitive salary, 12% superannuation and opportunities for training and career growth within a supportive council environment.

Qualifications

• A degree in Building Surveying or related field.
• Eligibility to obtain at least building surveyor–restricted registration for Class 1 and 10 buildings.
• Sound knowledge of building control and development assessment.
• Ability to analyse problems, resolve disputes and communicate with customers and stakeholders.
• Strong customer service skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Current unrestricted driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

• Assess applications and provide building certification services.
• Carry out inspections to support safe and compliant development.
• Provide clear, practical advice on building, plumbing and drainage requirements.
• Interact with customers and colleagues to resolve questions and find workable solutions.
