Job summary

Birdon Group is seeking qualified Boilermakers for Port Macquarie. Permanent, maximum term, and casual roles available with a 4-day work week and overtime options.

Competitive rates from $37.16 to $43.24 per hour, with casual loading and penalties on Fridays to Sundays. Work on new builds, refits, repairs, and vessels including commercial and defence projects, in a beautiful NSW coastal region.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in engineering fabrication.
• Requirement for high physical fitness and safe work practices.
• Must hold a construction white card.
• Team oriented with safe work attitude.

Responsibilities

• Lay out, cut, shape, and assemble heavy metal plates and hull components.
• Perform welding (MIG/TIG/Flux Core) for assembly.
• Repair hull sections, tanks, and high-pressure vessels.
• Follow shipyard safety standards and permits.

Key Accountabilities:

• Structural Fabrication & Assembly: Lay out, cut, shape, and assemble heavy metal plates, bulkheads, and structural components using blueprints, jigs, and templates.
• Welding & Joining: Utilize advanced welding techniques (such as MIG, TIG, and Flux Core) to join metal pieces securely.
• Maintenance & Repair: Cut out defective sections, repair hull breaches, and overhaul tanks, heat exchangers, and high-pressure vessels
• Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to shipyard safety standards, including OSHA regulations, confined space entry protocols, and hot-work permits.

Qualifications / Skills / Experience:

Essential

• Trade Qualification: Certificate III in Engineering (Fabrication Trade) or an equivalent apprenticeship in heavy structural steel/boiler making.
• Physical & Environmental Demands: High physical fitness, ability to work at heights, in confined or restricted spaces, and in varying weather conditions.
• Construction industry white card.
• Service-oriented team player with a “make it happen safely” attitude.

Desirable

• Experience working in Marine Industry
• Pipefitting experience
• Welding qualifications and experience welding to relevant classification society codes (e.g., DNV, Lloyd's Register).
