Job summary

Birdon in Port Macquarie is seeking Industrial Blasters and Painters to join our team, contributing to maintenance, repair and construction of marine, government and defence vessels.

This hands-on role suits experienced workers who take pride in safety, high-quality surface preparation, coating application and equipment care, working in a supportive shipyard team focused on safety and delivering project work to a high standard.

Qualifications

  • Relevant trade qualification or demonstrated blasting/painting experience.
  • Experience in heavy industrial/marine shipyard environments.
  • White Card (General Construction Induction) required.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out abrasive blasting, surface preparation and coating application.
  • Prepare steel and vessel surfaces to project and quality standards.
  • Operate blasting/painting equipment safely in a heavy industrial shipyard.
  • Maintain safe work areas and correct waste disposal.
  • Work closely with supervisors and team members to meet safety and production requirements.

Birdon is seeking Industrial Blasters and Painters to join our team in Port Macquarie, contributing to the maintenance, repair and construction of marine, commercial, government and defence vessels.

This is a hands‑on role suited to experienced industrial blasters and painters who take pride in safe, high-quality surface preparation, coating application and equipment care. You will work as part of a supportive shipyard team focused on safety, quality and delivering project work to a high standard.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Carry out abrasive blasting, surface preparation, masking, coating application and industrial painting activities
  • Prepare steel, vessel components and equipment surfaces to required project and quality standards
  • Use blasting and painting equipment safely and efficiently in a heavy industrial shipyard environment
  • Maintain safe work areas, including containment, ventilation, housekeeping and correct waste disposal
  • Work closely with supervisors and team members to meet safety, quality and production requirements
What we’re looking for:
  • Relevant trade qualification, ticket or demonstrated industrial blasting and painting experience
  • Experience working in a heavy industrial, marine, shipyard, construction or fabrication environment
  • Current General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
  • Strong attention to detail, surface finish and coating quality
  • A team-focused attitude with a commitment to working safely and reliably
  • Marine industry experience will be highly regarded
Safety and equipment expectations:
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices, including compliance with site safety procedures, permits, and risk controls
  • Experience using appropriate PPE for blasting and painting activities, including respiratory protection, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, and protective clothing
  • Understanding of dust, fumes, overspray, abrasive media, paint, solvent, and hazardous substance controls in heavy industrial environments
  • Ability to work safely in confined spaces, at heights, and around mobile plant where required, in accordance with site procedures and competency requirements
  • Maintain clean and controlled work areas, including containment, ventilation, housekeeping and correct disposal of waste materials
