Job summary

Wilmar Sugar Australia is seeking a Boiler Assistant to support boiler operators at Kalamia Mill in North Queensland’s Burdekin region. You will help oversee boilers and related equipment, conduct inspections, and maintain safe, efficient operations on a rotating shift roster.

The role requires safety compliance, a can‑do attitude, and readiness to work weekends or overtime during crushing. Training and certification credentials are valued, with a pathway to advanced boiler operation

Qualifications

• Must have High‑Risk Work Licence for Turbine Operator (TO).
• Must hold Advanced Boiler Operator (BA) certification or be able to achieve it.
• Demonstrates a can‑do attitude with sharp attention to detail and commitment to high standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist with safe, efficient boiler and plant equipment operation.
• Support boiler start-ups and shutdowns as directed.
• Conduct routine inspections of boilers, bagasse conveyors, pumps and fans.
• Maintain housekeeping in boiler station and surrounding areas.
• Operate and monitor turbines and associated equipment.
• Assist maintenance during planned/unplanned shutdowns.
• Report faults or abnormalities to supervisors.

Job description

As aBoiler Assistantwith Wilmar Sugar & Renewables you'll be at the core of our operations, assisting the Boiler Operator with overseeing critical equipment, ensuring optimal steam generation and maintaining plant efficiency. This hands‑on role requires strict adherence to safety protocols and relevant performance standards.

This position will be based at Kalamia Mill in North Queensland's Burdekin region, known for its stunning landscapes, rich agricultural heritage, and a vibrant community. The Burdekin region offers a fantastic lifestyle with a warm climate, beautiful beaches and a range of recreational activities, making it a great place to live and work.

During the crushing, this position operates on a continuous rotating shift roster, which may include weekends and occasional overtime. Once the crushing is complete and the Mill enters the maintenance period, the role switches to a day work schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the safe and efficient operation of boilers and associated plant equipment.
• Assist with boiler start‑ups, shutdowns as directed.
• Conduct routine inspections of boilers, bagasse conveyors, pumps, fans, and auxiliary equipment.
• Maintain housekeeping standards within the boiler station and surrounding work areas.
• Operate, start‑up, shutdown, and monitor turbines and associated auxiliary equipment.
• Perform minor maintenance tasks and assist maintenance personnel during planned and unplanned shutdowns.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and report faults or abnormalities with boiler and auxiliary plant equipment.
• Follow site safety procedures and actively participate in risk assessments, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and safety improvement initiatives.
• Maintain operational records and communicate equipment or process issues to supervisors as required.
