Job summary

Jenny Barbour IT and Project Recruitment is seeking an experienced Senior Backend Developer to own server-side architecture linking Adobe Commerce/Magento 2 with AWS services, APIs and event-driven integrations. You will design scalable backend solutions and collaborate with stakeholders.

The role focuses on Magento 2 customisations, AWS serverless design, REST/GraphQL APIs, and secure data integrations across ERP, logistics and storefront systems.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and delivering backend solutions for eCommerce and ERP integrations.
• Proven ability to develop Adobe Commerce/Magento 2 customisations, modules and APIs.
• Strong AWS serverless and event-driven design experience (Lambda, EventBridge, IAM).

Responsibilities

• Analyze business requirements and translate them into scalable backend designs.
• Develop and maintain Magento 2 extensions, APIs and integrations.
• Design REST and GraphQL APIs and connect Magento with ERP, logistics and third-party systems.
• Ensure data integrity across orders, inventory, pricing and catalogue data.
• Build microservices and data transformations using Node.js and/or Python with SQL/NoSQL.
• Apply MACH, headless and API-first principles to ecommerce solutions.
• Implement secure authentication with OAuth2/JWT and maintain CI/CD practices.
• Manage full development lifecycle with code, tests, deployment and production support.

Our client is undertaking a major digital and eCommerce transformation. We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Developer to take ownership of the server-side architecture connecting Adobe Commerce/Magento 2, AWS services, APIs and event-driven integrations.

Key Skills & Responsibilities

• Analyse business requirements and translate them into clear technical specifications, solution designs and scalable backend solutions.
• Develop and maintain Adobe Commerce/Magento 2 customisations, extensions, modules and APIs using PHP, Magento APIs, App Builder, API Mesh and RabbitMQ – mandatory.
• Design, build and maintain AWS serverless and event-driven solutions, including Lambda, EventBridge and IAM.
• Design and develop secure, high-performing REST and GraphQL APIs, and build integrations connecting Magento with ecommerce, ERP, logistics and third-party systems.
• Own data integrity and synchronisation across orders, inventory, pricing and catalogue data.
• Develop microservices, automation and data transformation solutions using Node.js and/or Python, supported by strong SQL/database skills and exposure to DynamoDB or NoSQL.
• Apply MACH, composable, headless and API-first architecture principles to modern ecommerce solutions.
• Implement secure application and integration solutions with a strong understanding of OAuth2, JWT and web security best practices.
• Manage the full development lifecycle including coding, testing, debugging, documentation, deployment and production support, with strong Git and CI/CD practices.
• Troubleshoot complex application and integration issues, conducting root-cause analysis and resolving performance, reliability and scalability challenges.
• Collaborate closely with frontend, IT and business stakeholders to maintain effective API contracts, integrations and operational support.
• Contribute to code reviews, automation, CI/CD improvements, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. Experience across multi-brand, multi-tenant or multi-storefront ecommerce environments will be highly regarded.
