Job summary

Brumby is building autonomous drones to herd cattle and monitor pasture. The Embedded Systems Engineer will own hardware across aircraft and docks, taking boards from bench power-up to field operation hundreds of kilometres away.

You will design the motherboard and battery-pack, integrate the flight controller and Jetson, tune ArduPilot, and build dock electronics for daily autonomous operation. Based in Sydney, field deployments are regular and Australian working rights are required.

Qualifications

  • Own avionics from design to flight, including power, sensors, and flight controller integration.
  • Deep experience with ArduPilot and reliable aircraft flight.
  • Strong embedded firmware experience in C/C++ on STM32.
  • Experience integrating onboard compute with flight controllers and sensors.
  • Experience designing and reviewing schematics/PCBs (KiCad preferred).
  • Ability to debug hardware/firmware on bench and in field.
  • Engineering degree in electrical/electronic/mechatronic.

Responsibilities

  • Own the avionics across aircraft, from power and flight control to onboard compute.
  • Build electronics and firmware for docks to launch, recover, and charge aircraft autonomously.
  • Configure and extend ArduPilot for long-range autonomous mustering.
  • Integrate onboard compute with aircraft so autonomy and vision systems work reliably in flight.
  • Build hardware that keeps working through heat, dust, rain, vibration and long periods offshore.
