Job summary

NSW Treasury is seeking a Financial Accountant to provide financial accounting, reporting and systems support. You will help maintain the fixed asset register, coordinate stocktakes, and assist with audits and policy improvements.

The role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, and advanced Excel skills. Flexible working options are available within the Treasury Finance group.

Your typical day-to-day work will include providing financial accounting, reporting and systems support to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of Treasury's financial functions. You will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial information and supporting compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and NSW Government requirements.

You will contribute to monthly and annual financial reporting processes, maintain Treasury's fixed asset register, coordinate annual stocktakes, review balance sheet reconciliations and support project capitalisation and settlement activities. You will also assist with audit processes and contribute to the ongoing improvement of financial policies, procedures and controls.

Your analytical skills will be essential as you review and interpret financial information, investigate issues, identify improvements and provide accurate and timely advice to stakeholders. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining high-quality outcomes.

You will be joining our Financial Management and Services Group and will be working within the Treasury Finance.

• demonstrated experience in financial accounting and reporting, including fixed asset accounting, reconciliations and financial reporting processes.
• knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and NSW Government accounting policies and practices
• advanced Excel skills and the ability to analyse, interpret and report on financial information.
• strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy, compliance and continuous improvement.
• ability to build effective working relationships and communicate financial information clearly to stakeholders
• ability to manage competing priorities and deliver quality outcomes within required timeframes.
• tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Finance, Accounting or a related discipline.
• membership of, or progress towards membership of, CA ANZ, CPA Australia or an equivalent recognised professional accounting body.
