Job summary

This Way Canteen is seeking an Assistant Manager to support day-to-day operations and help lead a hospitality team delivering warm, unpretentious service in the Museum of Sydney forecourt. About This Way Canteen

This Way Canteen sits in the Museum of Sydney forecourt, serving up a daily selection of sandwiches, salads and pastries — plus coffee and juice — ready to eat in or grab and go. We're known for warm hospitality, quality food done simply, and a team that genuinely loves what they do.

The Role

We're looking for an Assistant Manager to support the day-to-day running of This Way Canteen and help lead a team that takes pride in delivering excellent, unpretentious hospitality. You'll work closely with the leadership team across counter operations, team development, and the guest experience.

This is a role for someone who's already found their feet in hospitality leadership and is ready for the next step.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leading service on the floor and setting the standard for the team
• Supporting recruitment, onboarding, and training of counter and kitchen staff
• Managing peak-period flow and pre-service briefings in collaboration with the team
• Overseeing opening and closing procedures
• Handling guest feedback in the moment
• Assisting with rostering, labour management, and daily reporting
• Supporting compliance across food safety and OH&S
• Contributing to a positive team culture that people actually want to be part of

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience in a similar front-of-house leadership role
• Strong communication skills and a natural ability to read the room
• Genuine enthusiasm for food, coffee, and hospitality
• Calm under pressure, solutions-focused, and consistent
• Comfortable managing high-volume grab-and-go periods alongside seated service
• Current RSA certificate
