Job summary

Peninsula is seeking an Assistant Accountant in Sydney to support the finance team and accelerate your accounting career. You will handle month-end journals, reconciliations, BAS and tax support, and contribute to budgets and forecasts.

You’ll develop system expertise, liaise with internal stakeholders, auditors, and tax consultants, and grow within a culture that rewards performance and collaboration. The role suits a 1–2 year experience candidate with drive.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting, or 1–2 years of practical accounting experience.
• Demonstrates strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with internal stakeholders and auditors.
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and proactive problem solving.
• Fast learner, collaborative, and able to contribute to a high-performance culture.

Responsibilities

• Own key financial operations including month-end journal preparation, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assist with statutory requirements, BAS, tax, GST, IFRS adjustments.
• Assist with accounts payable, invoicing and payments.
• Support quarterly reforecasts, annual budgets, and ad-hoc analysis while mastering our financial systems.

What will your day look like?

• Own key financial operations including accurate month-end journal preparation, accruals, prepayments, and clean balance sheet reconciliations to strict timelines.
• Assist with statutory and ATO requirements, preparing BAS working files, and supporting workflows for corporate tax, FBT, GST, and IFRS adjustments.
• Assist with accounts payable, processing invoices and payments.
• Collaborate on quarterly reforecasts, annual budgets, and ad-hoc analysis while becoming a master user of our financial systems.

What we’re looking for:

• Holds a relevant business or finance degree or brings 1-2 years of practical experience in a similar accounting role.
• A highly driven individual with a strong desire to learn and continuously improve.
• Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to liaise effectively with internal stakeholders, tax consultants, and external auditors.
• A sound understanding of accounting principles combined with a positive attitude to think outside the box and proactively find solutions.
• Fast-paced, adaptable, and eager to contribute to a culture that values collaboration, high performance, and celebration.
