Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting/Finance/Commerce.
  • CA/CPA studies underway or planned.
  • 1–3 years experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar role.

Responsibilities

  • Support month-end processes including journals, reconciliations and prepayments.
  • Assist with management reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Maintain general ledger integrity and fixed asset accounting.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations for bank, intercompany and trust accounts.
  • Assist with regulatory/compliance obligations including BAS.
  • Support treasury and cash management activities.
  • Assist accounts payable, billing and revenue processes.
  • Respond to finance-related queries and provide stakeholder support.
  • Contribute to system enhancements and process improvements.
  • Support audit requirements.

About the Position

Reporting to the Financial Accountant, the Assistant Accountant will play an important role within the Finance team, supporting the delivery of accurate financial reporting, month-end processes, reconciliations and compliance activities.

This is a broad and varied role that will provide exposure across financial accounting, reporting, treasury, accounts administration and continuous improvement initiatives. Working closely with stakeholders across the firm, you will help ensure the integrity of financial information while supporting key business processes and maintaining a high level of service to internal stakeholders.

The position is ideally suited to an ambitious accounting professional looking to further develop their technical accounting capabilities within a professional services environment, while receiving mentorship, support and structured development opportunities.

Duties
  • Support month-end and year-end processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations
  • Assist with management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting activities
  • Maintain general ledger integrity and support fixed asset accounting processes
  • Prepare balance sheet, bank, trust and intercompany reconciliations, identifying and resolving variances as required
  • Assist with regulatory and compliance obligations, including BAS preparation and reporting requirements
  • Support treasury, banking administration and cash management activities
  • Assist across accounts payable, billing and revenue processes as required
  • Respond to finance-related queries and provide support to stakeholders across the firm
  • Contribute to system enhancements, process improvement initiatives and finance automation projects
  • Support audit requirements and broader finance team initiatives
About You

To be successful in this role, you will be a motivated and detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys working collaboratively and is eager to further develop your technical accounting skills. You will take pride in producing accurate work, building strong stakeholder relationships and identifying opportunities to improve processes and efficiencies.

You will have:
  • Degree qualifications in Accounting, Finance or Commerce
  • CPA or CA studies underway, or the intention to commence in the near future
  • 1-3 years' experience in an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Officer or similar finance role
  • A sound understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting and reconciliations
  • Experience preparing journals and working with general ledger accounts
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational and time management capabilities
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage confidently with senior professional stakeholders
  • A proactive mindset with a genuine interest in continuous improvement and process optimisation

Experience within a law firm, professional services or consulting environment will be highly regarded, as will exposure to ERP or practice management systems and involvement in audits, budgeting or management reporting activities.
