Job description

Now Buildings is Australia’s leading supplier of large farm and industrial buildings. We’ve built our reputation by doing things differently and by backing hardworking, down-to-earth people who genuinely care about what they do.

Based in Collingwood, our dog‑friendly office is home to a close‑knit team who excel in their field, enjoy a laugh, and support each other to do great work.

The Opportunity

We have an immediate opening in our Victorian team for an Assistant Accountant, where no two days will look the same in this role. It will suit someone who thrives on variety, enjoys solving problems, and can switch gears easily. A sense of humour (and a little pizzazz) will be looked upon very favourably.

As there’s plenty to learn across the business, the role will initially be primarily office‑based while you get up to speed. Once established in the role, we offer a flexible hybrid arrangement.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Daily bookkeeping duties including bank reconciliations, accounts payable & accounts receivable.
  • Assist with month end close and preparation of management reports.
  • Assist with preparing and monitoring budgets and forecasts.
  • Assist with BAS reconciliations and ATO payments across the group.
  • Maintain inter-entity loan reconciliations.
  • Maintain fixed asset registers.
  • Liaise with external accountants on accounting and compliance matters.
  • Review and compare recurring costs across the business.
  • Help departments investigate pricing discrepancies and reconcile expenditure.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports for internal teams.
  • Assist with weekly payroll processing.
  • For someone with an interest in data and systems, there will be opportunities to become involved in reporting, data analysis and business systems over time.
About You

This role will suit someone who is organised, curious and dependable. You'll enjoy getting to the bottom of discrepancies rather than working around them, be comfortable managing your own workload, and be willing to ask questions when something doesn't look right.

To be successful, you’ll bring:
  • A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce or a related field.
  • CA/CPA studies commenced, completed, or an interest in commencing them would be well regarded.
  • Experience using a major SME accounting system such as Xero or MYOB.
  • Confidence using Excel or Google Sheets.
  • A sound understanding of accounting, finance and budgeting principles.
  • An interest in financial reporting, data and business systems. Experience with tools such as Power Query, Tableau or Power BI would be highly regarded, but is not essential.
  • Payroll experience would be well regarded but is not essential, and training can be provided.
  • Strong time‑management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to follow up questions or discrepancies with people across the business.
What We Can Offer

We work hard, but we keep things pretty relaxed. There’s no corporate dress code, very little hierarchy, and you’ll work alongside everyone from junior team members through to the owners of the business. On top of this we offer:

  • A laid back, friendly office in Collingwood, just off Smith Street.
  • Coffee runs and plenty of good snacks while you’re in the office.
  • Team lunch every Friday.
  • Monthly happy hour and regular social events.
  • Parental leave benefits.
  • Paid study leave and support for further professional development (including CA/CPA).

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to complete a National Police Check as part of our pre‑employment process.
