Job summary

Safety Xpress in Keysborough, Melbourne VIC is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will support day-to-day financial operations of a growing national business and gain exposure across accounting functions.

This hands-on role covers AP/AR, reconciliations, month-end journals, asset depreciation, inventory accounting, cost and margin reporting, and KPI finance administration.

Qualifications

• Qualification in Accounting, Commerce or Business.
• Around 2–3 years' experience in accounting or finance.
• Strong Excel skills with numerical data.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
• Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Managing local and international Accounts Payable
• Assisting with Accounts Receivable and responding to finance enquiries
• Performing bank reconciliations
• Assisting with month-end journals and balance sheet reconciliations
• Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting schedules
• Assisting with fixed asset accounting and depreciation
• Supporting inventory accounting and stock reconciliations
• Assisting with cost and margin reporting
• Working with internal teams including Sales, Purchasing and Warehouse to ensure financial accuracy
• Assisting with KPI reporting and finance administration
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and finance projects
• Providing general accounting and administrative support to the Finance team

We're looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Finance Manager and working alongside an experienced CFO, you'll gain exposure to a broad range of accounting responsibilities while supporting the day-to-day financial operations of a growing national business.

About the Role

To be successful you'll have:

• A qualification in Accounting, Commerce or Business
• Around 2-3 years' experience in an accounting or finance role
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with financial data
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
• A positive, proactive attitude and willingness to learn
• The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively
• Experience using ERP systems such as NetSuite will be highly regarded
• Experience within wholesale, distribution or inventory-based businesses will be advantageous
