Job summary

Department of Justice and Community Safety, Victoria is seeking an Assessment and Transition Coordinator to support prisoners through assessment, parole and release.

You will deliver programs and services that support safe community transition, coordinate pre- and post-release support with prison staff and service providers, and help prisoners access transition opportunities.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Experience or understanding of prisoner transition and reintegration needs.
  • Ability to use risk assessment tools with individual prisoners.
  • Ability to work with people who may be hard to work with, alone or in groups.
  • Ability to work calmly and collaboratively in a prison setting.

Responsibilities

  • Complete risk and needs assessments and support parole applications.
  • Help prisoners access transition and reintegration programs.
  • Work with prison staff and service providers to coordinate pre- and post-release support.
  • Keep accurate records and program data to support planning and service delivery.
  • Share assessment, parole and program information with prisoners, prison staff, Community Correctional Services and the Adult Parole Board.

About This Role
  • Help prisoners prepare for release and build safer lives after prison.
  • You will assess risk, support parole applications and coordinate transition services.
  • You will work with prisoners, prison staff and service providers.
  • You can make a practical difference to people preparing to return to the community.
  • Fixed-Term (until 30/09/2027), Part-Time role earning $81,496 - $98,955 per year, plus super.
What You Will Do

As Assessment and Transition Coordinator, you will support prisoners through assessment, parole and release.

  • complete risk and needs assessments and support parole applications
  • help prisoners access transition and reintegration programs
  • work with prison staff and service providers to coordinate pre- and post-release support
  • keep accurate records and program data to support planning and service delivery
  • share assessment, parole and program information with prisoners, prison staff, Community Correctional Services and the Adult Parole Board.
About You

You will understand the challenges prisoners can face when preparing for release. You will also have the ability to use risk assessment tools with individual prisoners.

You Should Also Have
  • experience or understanding of prisoner transition and reintegration needs
  • confidence using risk assessment tools with individual prisoners
  • the ability to work with people who may be hard to work with, alone or in groups
  • the ability to work calmly and collaboratively in a prison setting.
