Job summary

Anita Gelato Pty Ltd is seeking an Area Manager to lead our Sydney City stores (Barangaroo, Central Park, South Eveleigh and Victoria Cross). You will drive operational performance across a multi-site portfolio, ensure brand standards, food safety and customer service, and report to the Operations Manager.

You will recruit, coach and performance-manage Store Managers, develop area budgets, monitor sales and labour costs, and coordinate with the maintenance team to minimise disruption.

Qualifications

• AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Business, Retail Management, Hospitality Management or a related field, plus at least 12 months of relevant experience; OR
• In lieu of formal qualifications, a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in retail or hospitality operational management.
• Proven ability to lead, coach and performance-manage store managers and their teams.

Responsibilities

• Accountable to the Operations Manager for achieving sales, profit, labour and cost of goods targets for all stores in the area.
• Develop store-level sales and profit action plans with Retail Store Managers and monitor weekly performance.
• Analyse trading, labour and COGs reports across the area and implement corrective actions.
• Approve store rosters and allocate labour to meet trading demand while controlling costs.
• Monitor inventory and manage stock transfers between stores.
• Lead performance reviews and coaching for Retail Store Managers and Trainees.
• Drive recruitment and development of Trainee Managers and Supervisors.
• Handle employee relations per company policy and safety standards.
• Conduct store visits/audits for food safety, cleanliness, cash handling and customer service.
• Ensure compliance with WHS and regulatory requirements across stores.
• Cooperate with Maintenance to prioritise area-wide repairs and upgrades.
• Review customer feedback to identify issues and implement fixes.
• Support new store openings and refurbishments with staffing and training.
• Lead weekly meetings with Store Managers and report area performance.

Anita Gelato is a premium gelato brand with stores across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and the ACT. We are looking for an experienced Area Manager to lead our Sydney City stores.

About the role

The Area Manager is responsible for the operational and financial performance of a designated group of Anita Gelato stores. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Area Manager translates the company's operational plans, budgets and standards into results across the area and manages the Retail Store Managers who run each store. The role is accountable for area sales and profitability, labour and cost of goods control, compliance with food safety, work health and safety and brand standards across multiple sites, and for building a capable and consistent store management team.

Key responsibilities

• Is accountable to the Operations Manager for achieving the sales, profit, labour and cost of goods targets for all stores in the area.

• Works with each Retail Store Manager to develop store-level sales and profit action plans in line with the company budget, and monitors weekly performance against them.

• Analyses trading, labour and cost of goods reports across the area, identifies variances and trends between stores, and implements corrective action.

• Approves store rosters and allocates labour across the area, redeploying team members between stores to meet trading demand while maintaining target labour costs.

• Monitors inventory performance and wastage across the area, sets stock-holding targets with each Retail Store Manager, and authorises stock transfers between stores.

• Manages, coaches and performance-manages the Retail Store Managers in the area, setting store KPIs and conducting formal performance reviews.

• Determines staffing requirements for area stores and leads the recruitment and selection of Retail Store Managers and Trainee Retail Managers, in consultation with the Operations Manager.

• Identifies and develops Trainee Retail Managers and Supervisors with potential for promotion, building the company's future management pipeline.

• Manages employee relations matters in area stores, including investigations, performance improvement plans and disciplinary processes, in line with Anita's HR policies, including Equal Employment Opportunity, Sexual Harassment and Bullying.

• Conducts scheduled and unannounced visits and audits of area stores covering food safety, recipe and procedure compliance, cleanliness and presentation, cash handling and customer service, and ensures corrective action plans are completed.

• Ensures all area stores comply with food safety, work health and safety and other regulatory requirements, investigates team member and customer incidents, and implements controls to prevent recurrence.

• Implements the procedures, systems, reporting tools and new product introductions developed by the Operations Manager consistently across all area stores.

• Works with the Maintenance (Facilities) Manager to prioritise maintenance and equipment works across the area and minimise disruption to trading.

• Analyses customer feedback for area stores to identify recurring issues and implements solutions with the Retail Store Managers.

• Supports new store openings and refurbishments in the area, including recruitment, training and operational set-up of new store teams.

• Conducts weekly meetings with each Retail Store Manager covering trading results, labour and cost of goods, service, health and safety, procedures and new product introductions.

• Reports weekly to the Operations Manager on area performance, risks, staffing and corrective actions, and contributes to operational planning and budgeting.

Skills and experience required

• In lieu of formal qualifications, a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in retail or hospitality operational management.

• Demonstrated store or multi-site management experience, including responsibility for sales, labour and cost of goods results.

• Proven ability to lead, coach and performance-manage store managers and their teams.

• Strong analytical, communication, organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure.

• Willingness to travel between stores within the area and to work weekends and public holidays as required.
