Job summary

Mildura English Language Centre (MELC) seeks an Education Support role to assist in delivering intensive EAL programs for students from Prep to Year 10. The position involves translating communications, coordinating with teachers and families, and supporting wellbeing within a diverse school community.

Applicants should be prepared to work under supervision and contribute to data maintenance and program support, with additional tasks as directed by the principal.

Qualifications

• SC1 Capacity to support teachers and students in intensive EAL programs (P-10) at MELC.
• SC2 Ability to communicate effectively with students, families and diverse communities.
• SC3 ICT/digital tools proficiency for EAL support.
• SC4 Commitment to ongoing professional learning and growth.
• SC5 Strong English reading, writing, speaking and listening, plus another language.

Responsibilities

• Support student learning individually or in groups under the class teacher.
• Translate communication between teachers and non-English speaking students in the classroom.
• Translate between teachers and non-English speaking parents during enrolment interviews and Parent/Teacher Conferences.
• Assist in translating school documents and resources, including using phone interpreting services.
• Prepare basic curriculum resources.
• Liaise with external support service providers, teachers, students and families.
• Support staff in student wellbeing.
• Provide teachers with insights into students’ cultural backgrounds and experiences.
• Literacy in Arabic or another language is desirable.
