Job summary

Mildura English Language Centre (MELC), a campus of Mildura Senior College, is part of Department of Education Victoria. The ES1-2 Multicultural Teacher Aide (Hazaragi) role supports students in intensive EAL programs (P-10) and focuses on language development, inclusion and collaboration with teachers.

You will work with diverse families, translate where needed, and contribute to learning resources, wellbeing support and professional development in line with DET guidelines and MELC policies.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting teachers and students in intensive EAL programs across year levels (P-10).
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, families and school community members from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
• Proficiency with ICT and digital learning tools relevant to assisting students with EAL.
• Commitment to professional learning and growth.

Responsibilities

• Support student learning individually or in groups under teacher guidance.
• Translate communication between teachers and non-English speaking students and families.
• Assist in translating school documents and resources, using interpreting services where needed.
• Prepare basic curriculum resources and learning materials.
• Liaise with external support providers, teachers, students and families.
• Support staff in student wellbeing and engage in professional development.
