You will collaborate with the Centre Manager, develop rosters, train staff and support safety procedures, incident reviews and continuous improvement of the aquatic facilities.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead lifeguards and aquatic attendants during daily operations.
  • Act as on-shift contact for aquatic operations and escalate issues.
  • Develop and manage staff rosters with budgets and agreements.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding and ongoing staff development.
  • Coordinate staff training including lifeguard competencies and safety procedures.
  • Coach and mentor staff and provide performance feedback.
  • Maintain records of qualifications and currency requirements.

  • Oversee cleaning and presentation of pool facilities.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Aquatics Operations Team Leader to join our leisure centre team.

As the Aquatics Operations Team Leader, you will provide day-to-day leadership to our pool operations team, including lifeguards and aquatic attendants, while working closely with the Centre Manager to ensure the facility operates safely, efficiently and to a consistently high standard.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leading, supervising and supporting lifeguards and aquatic attendants during daily operations.
  • Acting as the primary on-shift contact for aquatic operations and escalating issues appropriately.
  • Developing and managing staff rosters to ensure appropriate coverage while considering operational requirements, budgets and industrial agreements.
  • Supporting recruitment, onboarding, induction and ongoing development of aquatic staff.
  • Coordinating staff training, including lifeguard competencies, emergency procedures, customer service and regular in-service training.
  • Coaching and mentoring staff and providing constructive performance feedback.
  • Maintaining accurate records of staff qualifications, certifications and currency requirements.
  • Ensuring all aquatic staff meet relevant legislative, organisational and industry requirements.
  • Overseeing cleaning and presentation of the pool hall, pool decks, steam room and surrounding areas.
  • Identifying hazards and maintenance issues and ensuring appropriate corrective action is taken.
  • Supporting emergency response procedures, drills, incident management and post-incident reviews.
  • Working collaboratively with the Centre Manager and other team leaders to continually improve centre operations and customer experience.
About You:
  • We are looking for someone who is more than just a qualified lifeguard — you will be a strong leader, organised operator and positive role model for the aquatic team. You will bring:
  • Proven leadership experience within an aquatic, leisure or similar operational environment.
  • Strong knowledge of pool operations, water quality and plant room systems.
  • Excellent organisational, rostering and workforce management skills.
  • The ability to train, coach, mentor and motivate staff.
  • A strong understanding of aquatic safety, risk management and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving operational issues.
  • A commitment to delivering high standards of safety, cleanliness, customer service and facility presentation.
Essential Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Current Pool Lifeguard Qualification.
  • Current First Aid and CPR qualifications.
  • Aquatic Technical Operator Certificate, or willingness to obtain.
  • Current Working with Children Check (or equivalent).
  • Ability to meet all relevant legislative, organisational and industry requirements.
  • Flexible availability to accommodate the business’s operating hours.
