Job description

Surf Life Saving South Australia (SLSSA) is the peak organisation for water safety and lifesaving services in South Australia and is affiliated with Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA). We aim to achieve zero preventable deaths in South Australian waters and build connected, inclusive communities.

SLSSA is responsible for the governance, development, promotion and administration of surf lifesaving throughout South Australia and has the responsibility for servicing its 9,000 members and 23 clubs.

About the Role

The Aquatic Programs Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of our pool programs including multicultural community programs. This role is critical as we strive to connect and educate the community in lifesaving skills for life. The coordinator will lead key community program such as VACSWIM, CALD and Aboriginal programs as well as new initiatives as we aim to successfully deliver programs to more than 50,000 school aged children.

Key Responsibilities

Program Delivery

Coordinate the delivery of SLSSA community programs in line with funding requirements, including pool-based VACSWIM, Watch Around Water, the SA Aquatics Conference, Aboriginal and multicultural programs, and community water safety sessions.

Work with subject matter experts to prepare lesson outcomes, plans and instructor guides.

Identify program risks and put practical controls in place.

Prepare program timetables, respond to demand and arrange suitable adjustments for children with disability.

Book venues and coordinate the purchase and distribution of program resources and staff uniforms.

Recruit, roster and support program staff, and check that they hold the required qualifications.

Keep enrolment and staffing records accurate, and report system issues as they arise.

Respond to customer enquiries, with a regular customer service focus from September to January.

Keep relevant website information current and provide content for program promotion.

Gather feedback from participants, staff and partners to improve delivery.

Maintain working relationships with pools, SLSSA clubs, government agencies and other partners to support accessible programs across South Australia.

Industry and Stakeholder Engagement

Position SLSSA as the leading authority on water safety for pools.

Advocate strategically for the aquatics industry, ensuring alignment with SLSSA's mission.

Cultivate and strengthen collaborative, long-term relationships with key water safety organisations and authorities.

Serve as a SLSSA representative on relevant industry groups and committees, promoting best practices and water safety standards.

Other

Ensure databases, including Deputy and GameDay, are accurate and up-to-date for internal and external reporting purposes.

Any other reasonable duties as required.

Hours of Work

The position is full-time, with standard hours from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, and includes some after-hours and weekend work during peak periods.

Key Time Commitments Include

September to December

Extended hours from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, one day per week, with flexi-time available during the week to compensate.

December & January

Some weekend and public holiday work will be required. Adjusted hours will also apply on VACSWIM delivery days.

Program Activations & Staff Induction Days

Occasional weekend work or extended hours.
