APS6 Support Needs Assessor

• Location: Multiple Queensland Sites, Preferred locations (Cairns, Bundaberg, Harvey Bay, Mackay, Woodridge)
• Work Type: Full-time hours per week (36 hours 15 minutes)
• Contract Date: ASAP to 12th of December 2026 + potential for extension
• Applications Close: Tuesday 15th of September
• Pay rate: $61.85 ph + super

Note on Registration: Active professional registration (e.g., AHPRA) is not required, but you must hold a verified, Australian-accepted qualification.

About the Role

Are you an empathetic clinical, allied health, or education professional with a knack for deep listening and clinical reasoning?

Our Federal Government client is launching a national testing program and is seeking agile, high-performing professionals to join them as Support Needs Assessors. In this role, you will conduct comprehensive support needs assessments via semi-structured, conversational interviews with NDIS participants.

You will be responsible for reviewing files, conducting virtual or face-to-face assessments, and writing high-quality, strengths-based reports that clearly capture a participant's life situation and needs. Please note: This role focuses strictly on assessment and reporting; you will not make funding, budget, or support hour determinations.

What We Are Looking For (Key Requirements)

We are looking for a diverse mix of backgrounds. To be successful, you must have:

• Qualifications: A tertiary qualification in Allied Health (Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Pathology, Social Work, Dietetics, Exercise Physiology, Counselling, etc.), Nursing (RN/EN), Education, or be an NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioner.
  • Note: Students part-way through their qualifications who possess significant, recent assessment experience may also be considered.
• Experience: Proven experience administering support needs assessments or utilising person-centred/strengths-based assessment frameworks. Experience with semi-structured interviews is highly regarded.
• Core Skills:
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to navigate complex or sensitive conversations.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical writing skills to produce defensible, clear reports.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, culturally safe, and person-centred practices.
  • Digital literacy to navigate CRM case management systems and conduct video meetings (e.g., Microsoft Teams).
