As the Transition Centre Second in Command (2IC), you will play an important role in supporting Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and their families as they prepare to transition from military service to civilian life. Working closely with the Officer in Charge (OIC), you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality transition services that help members navigate their individual transition journey and access available support programs and services.
Operating within a dynamic and people-focused environment, the 2IC supports the leadership and day-to-day management of an integrated workforce comprising ADF, Australian Public Service (APS) and contracted personnel. You will provide guidance on more complex transition matters, support quality assurance and governance activities, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service delivery and outcomes for members.
The Transition Centre 2IC will build productive relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including Defence personnel, service providers and external organisations. You will act as an escalation point for complex enquiries, assist with case management activities and work collaboratively to identify practical solutions to support members with complex transition needs.
Key aspects of the role include supporting the delivery of the Defence Force Transition Program, conducting transition support sessions, assisting members to develop individualised Transition Plans, facilitating referrals to specialist services and providing advice on available transition benefits and administrative processes.

The Joint Transition Authority (JTA) leads Defence's transition system, ensuring ADF members and their families are supported throughout their transition, both during service and as they move to civilian life. Transition Service Delivery staff are located predominantly in JTA Transition Centres, located across major military establishments nationally.
In line with Defence's strategic priorities, JTA is implementing a national operating model that delivers a streamlined and consistent transition experience for all ADF members, regardless of Service.
