Job summary

Morgan Mckinley is seeking an experienced Governance professional to lead AI governance initiatives within a state government department. The role centers on coordinating AI governance activities, risk and assurance, and reporting to executives.

Contract until December 2026, based in Parramatta. You will uplift governance artefacts, engage stakeholders and drive scalable AI adoption through robust governance frameworks.

Qualifications

• Strong AI governance, risk and assurance capability.
• AI assessments experience in NSW Government.
• Understanding of AI lifecycle governance and control frameworks.
• Experience maintaining governance registers and tracking actions.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Governance professional who has managed AI Governance in a state government Department.

Location : Parramatta

Responsibilities

• AI Governance and Assurance : Coordinate AI governance activities, assessments, registers and compliance processes
• Audit, Risk and Compliance Management: Progress audit, assurance and policy actions to closure, maintaining evidence, monitoring risks and escalating high-risk or overdue matters for executive oversight
• Governance Operations and Reporting: Coordinate governance forums, prepare executive reporting and maintain accurate records of decisions, actions, risks and governance outcomes to support informed decision-making
• AI Governance Uplift and Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and improve AI governance artefacts, and processes while engaging business owners, subject matter experts and control functions to resolve issues and support scalable AI adoption

Requirements

• Strong AI governance, risk and assurance capability and experience
• AI assessments experience in NSW Government
• Strong understanding of AI lifecycle governance, including governance ownership, decision rights, escalation pathways and control frameworks
• Experience maintaining governance registers, tracking actions, monitoring compliance obligations and escalating overdue or high‑risk matters
• Excellent communication and organisation skills
