Job summary

USU, the University of Sydney Union, is seeking a detail‑driven Finance Assistant to manage end‑to‑end accounts payable and provide payroll support. You’ll process invoices, manage records, run weekly payments, and assist month‑end tasks. Training is provided for payroll duties, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, confidentiality, and cybersecurity.

Based in Sydney, this full‑time role offers a 35‑hour week, generous leave, and learning opportunities within a supportive finance team.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of Accounts Payable and Payroll experience.
• Qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Cert IV+).
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Capable of meeting deadlines in a busy team.
• Clear communication and collaborative mindset.
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
• Proactive, solutions-focused approach with cybersecurity awareness.

Responsibilities

• Process supplier invoices end-to-end with approvals, coding and tax treatment.
• Manage supplier records, reconciliations, and payment queries.
• Prepare weekly payment runs for suppliers, staff reimbursements, and petty cash.
• Support month-end activities including card processing and accruals.
• Provide back-up payroll support and run payroll when required.
• Maintain compliant, confidential, and secure records for the finance team.
