Job summary

Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) in Melbourne is seeking an Aboriginal Victim Engagement Officer to support victims of crime in the Children's Court. Qualifications

• No mandatory qualification; ideally a relevant tertiary qualification and at least two years' experience delivering services.
• Priority consideration for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
• Certificate of Aboriginality required before offer in this prioritised process.
• Knowledge of Victorian Aboriginal communities and issues affecting them.
• Ability to communicate sensitively and clearly with Aboriginal people.
• Understanding of youth justice, the Children's Court, and victim support services.

Responsibilities

• Provide sensitive in-person and phone support with care for trauma.
• Connect victims with appropriate services and explain restorative justice options.
• Build strong relationships with Aboriginal communities, court staff and victim support services.
• Help the team deliver culturally safe support tailored to each victim.
• Keep accurate records and advise on improving victim support.
