Zusammenfassung

TU Wien invites applications for a part-time project assistant (PhD student) position in the THz-Electronics Group. The role is 30 hours per week for 1 year, with potential extension up to 3.5 years, starting November 2026.

The group investigates THz sources, detectors, and systems with emphasis on resonant-tunneling diodes, and collaborates closely with TU Wien’s research community. The successful candidate will perform research on THz RTD oscillators and detectors, contribute to publications,

Qualifikationen

  • MSc (or finishing MSc at the time of the contract start) in Electrical Engineering, Physics or similar discipline.
  • A strong foundation in high-frequency electrical engineering or in the physics of electric or optoelectronic devices is required.
  • Prior experience with semiconductor technology, nano/micro-fabrication, THz or high-frequency measurements and electromagnetic simulations is an important advantage.
  • Strong motivation to complete PhD within the timeframe of the project.
  • Team player and advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Interest and enthusiasm in research.
  • Knowledge of German is not required.

The THz-Electronics Group of the Institute of Electrodynamics, Microwave and Circuit Engineering, TU Wien is offering a position (all genders) as project assistant (PhD student) initially for 1 year with a possible extension up to a maximum of 3.5 years of the project duration, the position is for 30 hours/week.

Focus: the THz-Electronics Group investigates THz sources, detectors, and systems, with special emphasis on resonant-tunneling diodes (RTDs) and THz sources based on them. Web page of the group: https://www.tuwien.at/en/etit/e354/thz

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austria collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently in EUR 2,832.10/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
