TU Wien invites applications for a part-time PhD student position in the THz-Electronics Group. The project focuses on THz RTD oscillators and detectors, with a strong emphasis on research in THz electronics. The successful candidate will contribute to experiments, data analysis and dissemination of results through top journals and conferences.

The role supports PhD completion within 1 year initially, extendable up to 3.5 years. Start expected November 2026, 30 hours/week.

Qualifikationen

• MSc or completed MSc by start of contract in Electrical Engineering, Physics or related field.
• Strong foundation in high-frequency electrical engineering or physics of electronic/optoelectronic devices.
• Prior experience with semiconductor technology, nano/micro-fabrication, THz or high-frequency measurements and electromagnetic simulations is an advantage.
• Motivation to complete PhD within project timeframe.
• Team player with strong problem-solving skills.
• Interest and enthusiasm for research.
• Knowledge of German not required.
• Excellent English.

The THz-Electronics Group of the Institute of Electrodynamics, Microwave and Circuit Engineering, TU Wien is offering a position (all genders) as project assistant (PhD student) initially for 1 year with a possible extension up to a maximum of 3.5 years of the project duration, the position is for 30 hours/week. Expected start: November, 2026.

The focus of the THz-Electronics Group is the investigation of THz sources, detectors, and systems, with a special emphasis on the investigation of resonant-tunneling diodes (RTDs) and THz sources based on them. Web page of the group: https://www.tuwien.at/en/etit/e354/thz

Your profile:

• MSc (or finished MSc at the time of the contract start) in Electrical Engineering, Physics or similar discipline
• A strong foundation in high-frequency electrical engineering or in the physics of electric or optoelectronic devices is required
• Prior experience with semiconductor technology, nano/micro-fabrication, THz or high-frequency measurements and electromagnetic simulations is an important advantage
• Strong motivation to complete PhD within the timeframe of the project
• Team player and advanced problem-solving skills
• Interest and enthusiasm in research
• Knowledge of German is not required
