Qualifikationen

Position Overview

THz‑Electronics: Project Assistant – PhD Student (all genders). 30 hours/week, initially for 1 year, extendable up to 3.5 years. Expected start: November 2026. Location: Karlsplatz 13, Vienna, Austria.

The THz‑Electronics Group of the Institute of Electrodynamics, Microwave and Circuit Engineering invites applicants to work on THz sources, detectors, and systems, with a special emphasis on resonant‑tunnelling diodes (RTDs) and THz sources based on them. Responsibilities
  • Conduct research into THz RTD oscillators and detectors.
  • Carry out studies in the field of THz Electronics.
  • Write and publish scientific papers in top conferences and journals.
Qualifications
  • MSc (or completed MSc at the time of the contract start) in Electrical Engineering, Physics or a similar discipline.
  • Strong foundation in high‑frequency electrical engineering or physics of electric or optoelectronic devices.
  • Prior experience with semiconductor technology, nano/micro‑fabrication, THz or high‑frequency measurements and electromagnetic simulations is an important advantage.
  • Strong motivation to complete a PhD within the timeframe of the project.
  • Team player and advanced problem‑solving skills.
  • Interest and enthusiasm for research.
  • Knowledge of German is not required.
