Job description

Teamlead Mechanical Design (all genders)
  • Full-time
  • Department: Production & Integration

At IMS Nanofabrication, we shape the future — one nanometer at a time. Headquartered in Austria, with subsidiaries in Vienna, Taiwan, South Korea, and the USA, we are a global leader in semiconductor technology. Our cutting‑edge mask writers power the world's most advanced chip manufacturing, making high-performance smartphones, PCs, and data centers possible. By pushing the boundaries of nanofabrication, we enable innovation at the smallest scale — driving progress on a global level.

Precision mechanical design is essential to the performance and reliability of our multi‑beam mask writers. As Teamlead Mechanical Design, you will lead internal and external design engineers and guide mechanical components and assemblies from concept to series production. Reporting to the Head of Mechanics & Technology, you will combine technical leadership with team development and close collaboration across R&D, production, and our supplier network.

Your Responsibilities
  • Lead the mechanical design of components and assemblies from concept development through verification, release, and transfer to series production
  • Lead and develop three internal design engineers, allocate tasks, set priorities, and provide technical guidance and coaching
  • Coordinate external design partners by defining work packages, providing technical input, evaluating concepts, and reviewing deliverables
  • Review and approve technical drawings, inspection drawings, and specifications, ensuring design quality, completeness, and manufacturability
  • Plan and coordinate design activities across multiple projects in line with scope, timelines, and budgets
  • Collaborate with production, procurement, suppliers, quality, integration, service, and electronics engineering to align requirements and resolve technical issues
  • Ensure systematic design reviews, risk assessments, and verification activities to support reliable designs and successful industrialisation
  • Improve design methods, standards, and workflows by sharing lessons learned and evaluating new technologies
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a comparable field
  • 5+ years of professional experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within the semiconductor industry
  • Strong expertise in machine design, physics, strength of materials, and high‑precision mechanical systems
  • Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred), including PDM systems and detailed technical documentation
  • In‑depth knowledge of materials selection, tolerancing, surface finishes, and international standards (ISO, ANSI, DIN)
  • Experience with high‑precision manufacturing processes and design verification methods (FMEA, simulations, prototyping, industrialization)
  • Solid understanding of safety and regulatory requirements and multidisciplinary system design, including electrical interfaces
  • Ability to lead and develop engineers, coordinate external partners, and manage competing priorities across multidisciplinary projects
  • Experience in vacuum technology, FE simulations, and complex projects under tight deadlines
