Gusto is seeking a Staff Engineer for the Developer Productivity - AI Developer Tools team to architect the AI platform that accelerates engineering across the company. You will design autonomous agents, RAG, and smart context delivery to reduce developer friction and improve CI/CD reliability.

The role emphasizes security, privacy, and scale, partnering with product, infra, and security teams to deliver secure, AI-powered tooling for hundreds of builders.

Qualifikationen

• 8+ years of experience navigating large, complex codebases and delivering production-grade software.
• Strong track record moving AI from prototype to production, including prompt engineering, RAG, and multi-agent orchestration.
• Passion for developer experience and maximizing productivity of internal tooling.
• Strategic mindset with emphasis on data privacy, security, cost management, and reliability.
• Excellent communication translating AI capabilities into infrastructure strategies; mentoring teams.
• Collaborative mindset to align multiple teams with a common vision.

Aufgaben

• Architect AI core infrastructure, APIs, and internal platform supporting autonomous agents and RAG workflows.
• Define engineering best practices for AI, including evals, guardrails, latency, and token management.
• Collaborate with product engineering, infra, and security teams to ensure scalable and secure tooling.
• Identify and remove bottlenecks in the local-to-production lifecycle at scale.
• Maintain production-grade AI infrastructure, monitor health, and mitigate drift or downtime.
