Role Context

The Inclusion Teacher will help ensure that students with additional learning needs can participate meaningfully in classroom learning and make measurable academic, social and personal progress. A central responsibility is identifying barriers to learning and translating assessment evidence into practical strategies. Individual Education Plans, intervention programs and care plans will be developed around each student 's needs, with progress reviewed systematically and adjustments made when required. The teacher will also support a whole-school culture of inclusion by working closely with classroom teachers, curriculum support staff, parents and external specialists. Effective collaboration will help maintain consistent strategies between specialist intervention and everyday classroom learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Promote inclusive classroom practice and advocate for equitable access to learning across the school.
  • Deliver lessons and targeted support that help students achieve the strongest possible outcomes.
  • Observe and assess students with SEN to identify individual strengths, barriers and priority areas for intervention.
  • Design and deliver structured intervention programs according to identified learning needs.
  • Develop Individual Education Plans for students requiring personalized educational support.
  • Coordinate care plans and ensure agreed strategies are implemented consistently.
  • Maintain accurate records of student needs, interventions, targets and progress.
  • Review individual targets regularly and adjust support based on evidence of achievement.
  • Use school assessment information to identify areas requiring additional intervention.
  • Record student development using Target Tracker and other approved systems.
  • Analyze assessment data to influence future planning, classroom provision and specialist support.
  • Motivate students through engaging, appropriately differentiated teaching.
  • Help students develop confidence, independence and positive attitudes toward learning.
  • Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to embed effective inclusion strategies.

  • Meet with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and educational psychologists when specialist advice is required.
  • Support the implementation of recommendations provided by external professionals.
  • Work with parents and carers to establish shared expectations for student development.
  • Provide clear updates on academic progress, intervention outcomes and wellbeing.
  • Participate in Parent Teacher Conferences and other student-focused meetings.
  • Follow the school 's behaviour policy and apply strategies appropriate to individual student needs.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour while promoting self-regulation and independence.
  • Act as a positive role model for inclusive, respectful and supportive practice.
  • Participate in curriculum action groups covering planning, assessment, resources and school initiatives.
  • Use CPOMS and other approved systems appropriately when recording or communicating student wellbeing matters.
  • Support school events, outings and activities when required.
  • Lead a weekly extracurricular activity during each term.
  • Contribute actively to the wider ethos and inclusive culture of the school.
  • Maintain safeguarding responsibilities and prioritize the welfare of every student.
Ideal Profile

The role is suited to an educator with practical experience supporting students with special educational needs, additional learning requirements or barriers to curriculum access. Candidates should understand how to assess individual needs, establish achievable targets and develop interventions that support measurable progress without limiting academic expectations. Experience preparing and reviewing Individual Education Plans will be particularly important, together with the ability to maintain accurate student records and coordinate support across teaching and specialist teams. The successful candidate should communicate confidently with parents, classroom teachers, support staff and external professionals. A collaborative approach is essential because effective inclusion depends on consistent strategies across multiple learning environments. Strong classroom management, empathy, patience and professional judgment are required. The teacher should also encourage students to become increasingly independent rather than creating unnecessary dependence on adult support.
