Departmental Responsibilities
- Develop and implement departmental policies and practices that reflect the school 's vision, objectives and expectations for high-quality teaching and learning.
- Establish, monitor and evaluate short, medium and long-term plans for departmental development.
- Ensure appropriate schemes of work are developed, implemented, reviewed and evaluated across relevant year groups and courses.
- Maintain curriculum coverage, continuity and progression for students across different ability levels.
- Ensure curriculum planning provides appropriate support for SEN or People of Determination, gifted and talented, and EAL students.
- Promote high standards of achievement, teaching quality and student behaviour.
- Contribute to an effective and stimulating learning environment in accordance with school policy.
Student Achievement and Data
- Use student performance data to identify underachievement within the department.
- Develop and implement appropriate actions to support students who are not making expected progress.
- Analyse and interpret relevant school data to inform departmental policies and school self-evaluation.
- Apply effective strategies to raise academic standards and address identified learning gaps.
- Maintain high expectations for student progress and achievement.
Teaching Quality and Departmental Leadership
- Establish clear expectations for staff regarding student achievement, teaching quality, learning and behaviour.
- Evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within the department.
- Identify effective classroom practice and areas requiring further development.
- Implement appropriate actions to strengthen teaching and learning.
- Performance manage team members in accordance with the school 's performance management policy.
- Deploy departmental staff and resources efficiently and effectively.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues while contributing leadership experience to departmental and school priorities.
Enrichment and Academic Support
- Support the department 's contribution to the school 's CAS Programme.
- Contribute to after-school booster and revision sessions for IGCSE, GCSE and IB Diploma Programme courses.
- Support an extensive enrichment programme for students.
- Encourage academic engagement beyond regular classroom provision.
Resources and Learning Environment
- Maintain effective oversight of departmental resource and capital expenditure budgets.
- Ensure available resources are deployed appropriately to support teaching and learning.
- Use departmental accommodation effectively to create a stimulating educational environment.

Qualifications
- Bachelor 's Degree in Biology or a related subject.
- PGCE or another recognized teaching qualification.
Experience
- Minimum 6 years of teaching experience.
- Experience with the UK curriculum.
- Proven ability to implement strategies that raise standards and address gaps in student learning.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Leadership skills and experience at different levels.
