Role Context
The Specialist Intensivist will provide advanced medical care for critically ill patients requiring close monitoring, rapid clinical decisions, life‑support interventions, and coordinated ICU treatment. The role is central to patient survival and recovery in complex cases such as sepsis, respiratory failure, trauma, multi‑organ failure, shock, and post‑operative critical illness. Working closely with anesthesiology, emergency medicine, surgery, internal medicine, nursing, respiratory therapy, and allied healthcare teams, the specialist will help maintain safe ICU operations, evidence‑based treatment standards, and strong patient safety outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive ICU care for critically ill patients requiring continuous monitoring, advanced treatment, and urgent clinical intervention.
- Manage complex critical care cases including sepsis, septic shock, multi‑organ failure, respiratory failure, trauma, and acute deterioration.
- Perform and interpret advanced hemodynamic monitoring to guide fluid therapy, vasopressor support, circulation management, and treatment escalation.
- Manage ventilatory support, oxygenation strategies, non‑invasive ventilation, invasive ventilation, airway stabilization, and weaning plans.
- Perform invasive ICU procedures including central venous catheterization, arterial line placement, intubation, and other critical care interventions within scope of practice.
- Lead resuscitation efforts, emergency response situations, rapid stabilization, and acute critical care decision‑making.
- Develop individualized ICU treatment plans based on diagnosis, organ support needs, patient risk, clinical response, and multidisciplinary recommendations.
- Collaborate with anesthesiology, emergency medicine, surgery, internal medicine, respiratory therapy, ICU nursing, pharmacy, and other specialist teams.
- Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds, case discussions, care planning meetings, and ICU handovers to support continuity of care.
- Supervise junior doctors, residents, ICU nursing staff, and clinical team members involved in critical care delivery.
- Ensure adherence to ICU protocols, infection control practices, patient safety standards, clinical governance requirements, and UAE healthcare regulations.
- Contribute to quality improvement projects, clinical audits, ICU performance reviews, morbidity discussions, and patient safety initiatives.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, procedure records, progress notes, ICU care plans, and treatment updates.
- Stay updated with critical care guidelines, advanced life‑support protocols, ICU best practices, and modern intensive care technologies.
Ideal Profile
- Medical degree such as MBBS or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Board certification or equivalent specialist qualification in Intensive Care Medicine or Critical Care Medicine.
- Minimum 3‑5 years of ICU or critical care experience, preferably post‑specialization.
- Eligibility for UAE medical licensing, with MOHAP eligibility required for the actual work location in Sharjah.
- Strong proficiency in advanced airway management, intubation, ventilator management, life‑support procedures, and emergency stabilization.
- Experienced in managing sepsis, respiratory failure, multi‑organ dysfunction, trauma cases, shock states, and high‑acuity ICU patients.
- Skilled in hemodynamic monitoring, arterial lines, central venous access, resuscitation, and critical care treatment planning.
- Excellent clinical judgment with the ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
- Strong communication, leadership, supervision, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
- Ability to contribute to ICU governance, audits, infection control, patient safety, and continuous service improvement.
