Role Context
The Specialist Critical Care Medicine physician will provide continuous assessment and treatment for patients requiring intensive monitoring, organ support, emergency intervention, and complex medical management. The position involves rapid interpretation of changing physiological data, early recognition of deterioration, advanced respiratory and circulatory support, and close coordination with anesthesiology, emergency medicine, surgery, internal medicine, nursing, and allied healthcare teams. The specialist will contribute directly to patient stabilization, complication prevention, and efficient ICU recovery pathways.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and manage critically ill adult patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
- Provide treatment for sepsis, septic shock, respiratory failure, trauma, multi‑organ dysfunction, and other life‑threatening conditions.
- Manage invasive and non‑invasive mechanical ventilation according to patient condition and respiratory requirements.
- Perform advanced airway management including endotracheal intubation when clinically indicated.
- Insert and manage central venous catheters and arterial lines for invasive monitoring and treatment.
- Interpret hemodynamic parameters, blood gases, laboratory findings, imaging, and physiological trends.
- Develop individualized critical care plans based on diagnosis, organ function, clinical risk, and treatment response.
- Provide circulatory and respiratory support during acute deterioration and emergency situations.
- Participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other emergency critical care interventions.
- Conduct regular multidisciplinary ICU reviews and contribute to daily treatment priorities.
- Coordinate complex cases with anesthesiologists, emergency physicians, surgeons, internal medicine specialists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Monitor treatment response and adjust ventilation, medication, fluid therapy, and other supportive measures when required.
- Apply infection prevention practices and ICU protocols designed to reduce healthcare‑associated complications.
- Supervise junior doctors, residents, and clinical staff involved in intensive care where appropriate.
- Maintain complete clinical documentation covering assessments, procedures, treatment decisions, and patient progress.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement programs, patient safety initiatives, and ICU governance activities.
- Remain current with evidence‑based critical care guidelines, life‑support practices, and developments in intensive care medicine.
Ideal Profile
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
- Board Certification or equivalent specialist qualification in Intensive Care Medicine or Critical Care Medicine.
- Minimum 3-5 years of ICU or critical care experience, preferably following specialist qualification.
- Strong experience managing patients with sepsis, respiratory failure, trauma, shock, and multi‑organ dysfunction.
- Advanced competence in airway management, mechanical ventilation, and invasive critical care procedures.
- Practical knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation of complex physiological data.
- Ability to make timely clinical decisions in rapidly changing and high‑pressure situations.
- Strong communication, leadership, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
- Previous experience within a tertiary or high‑acuity ICU environment is advantageous.
- Commitment to evidence‑based treatment, infection control, and patient safety.
- Eligibility for appropriate medical licensing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
