Role Overview

The Specialist - Intensive Care Medicine in Dubai, United Arab Emirates will provide advanced clinical management for critically ill patients requiring continuous monitoring, organ support, invasive procedures, and emergency intervention. The selected physician will support a leading healthcare facility in Sharjah while managing complex cases involving sepsis, respiratory failure, trauma, shock, and multiorgan dysfunction.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive medical care for critically ill patients admitted to the ICU.
• Conduct rapid clinical assessments, establish differential diagnoses, and initiate appropriate stabilization measures.
• Manage patients with sepsis, septic shock, respiratory failure, trauma, cardiac instability, and multiorgan dysfunction.
• Develop individualized critical care treatment plans based on clinical findings, investigations, and evidence-based protocols.
• Initiate and manage invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
• Adjust ventilator settings according to oxygenation, ventilation, blood gas analysis, lung mechanics, and patient response.
• Perform advanced airway management including endotracheal intubation and emergency airway stabilization.
• Insert and manage central venous catheters, arterial lines, and other invasive monitoring devices.
• Interpret advanced hemodynamic parameters, laboratory findings, imaging, blood gases, and continuous monitoring data.
• Manage fluid therapy, vasopressors, inotropes, sedation, analgesia, nutrition, and organ support.
• Recognize clinical deterioration and respond promptly to life‑threatening changes.
• Lead or participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, rapid response calls, and emergency critical care interventions.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary treatment with anesthesiology, emergency medicine, surgery, cardiology, internal medicine, and other specialties.
• Participate in daily ICU rounds, handovers, case conferences, and treatment planning discussions.
• Review patients regularly and adjust treatment strategies according to progress and evolving clinical needs.
• Monitor for complications including ventilator‑associated pneumonia, catheter‑related infection, delirium, thrombosis, and pressure injuries.
• Ensure compliance with ICU protocols, infection prevention standards, antimicrobial stewardship, and patient‑safety requirements.
• Support safe transfer, admission, escalation, and discharge planning for critically ill patients.
• Communicate diagnoses, treatment plans, risks, prognosis, and clinical updates clearly to patients and families.
• Maintain accurate admission notes, progress records, procedure documentation, medication plans, and discharge summaries.
• Supervise junior doctors, residents, nurses, and other members of the critical care team.
• Provide bedside teaching, procedural guidance, and clinical support to healthcare staff.
• Participate in morbidity and mortality meetings, clinical audits, incident reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to ICU policy development, clinical governance, patient‑safety programs, and service improvement.
• Maintain current knowledge of critical care guidelines, resuscitation standards, ventilatory strategies, and emerging treatments.
• Participate in continuing medical education, professional training, research, and departmental development activities.

Ideal Profile

• Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
• Completed specialist training in Intensive Care Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, or a related specialty.
• Board certification, fellowship, or equivalent recognized specialization in Intensive Care or Critical Care Medicine.
• Valid UAE medical license or eligibility to obtain MOHAP licensing for practice in Sharjah.
• Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in an ICU or critical care environment, preferably following specialist qualification.
• Strong experience managing sepsis, respiratory failure, shock, trauma, and multiorgan dysfunction.
• Advanced competence in airway management, intubation, resuscitation, and life‑support procedures.
• Proven experience with invasive and non‑invasive ventilation.
• Strong knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring, vasopressor therapy, fluid management, and organ support.
• Practical experience performing central venous catheterization and arterial line insertion.
• Ability to interpret blood gases, laboratory findings, imaging, and complex physiological data.
• Excellent clinical judgment and the ability to make rapid decisions under pressure.
• Strong leadership, communication, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
• Ability to supervise junior physicians and support ICU nursing teams.
• Commitment to evidence‑based medicine, infection prevention, patient confidentiality, and clinical governance.
