Role Overview
Social Studies HOD – Secondary is a full‑time leadership role within a CBSE curriculum school. The role coordinates the secondary Social Studies department, supports teachers, improves academic standards, and strengthens curriculum delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the Secondary Social Studies department within a CBSE curriculum school.
- Work directly with Social Studies teachers to improve teaching skills, subject knowledge, lesson delivery, and classroom practice.
- Support development of effective pedagogy so that student learning outcomes and academic standards are improved.
- Contribute actively to departmental and team planning, including curriculum maps, lesson plans, assessments, and learning resources.
- Work with school leaders to support academic improvement plans and raise standards across the department.
- Monitor teaching and learning quality through classroom support, lesson review, feedback, and coaching.
- Help teachers align lessons with CBSE academic standards, UAE teaching expectations, and school improvement goals.
- Ensure familiarity with the UAE framework of teaching and support a standard of good teaching in all lessons.
- Review student progress data, identify learning gaps, and support intervention planning where required.
- Support assessment planning, moderation, tracking, and reporting of student performance.
- Mentor teachers and encourage best practices in student engagement, differentiated instruction, and classroom management.
- Promote collaboration among department staff to ensure consistency in curriculum delivery and academic expectations.
- Maintain departmental records, planning documents, assessment files, and progress‑related documentation.
- Communicate professionally with teachers, coordinators, senior leaders, students, and parents when required.
- Support school events, academic initiatives, inspection readiness, and other department‑related responsibilities assigned by leadership.
Ideal Profile
- Master's or Bachelor's degree in Education with Social Studies specialization.
- M.A. or B.A. in Humanities or Social Studies.
- Distance or open university degrees are not accepted.
- Strong subject knowledge in Social Studies, Humanities, History, Geography, Civics, and related curriculum areas.
- Relevant teaching experience in the UAE.
- Previous experience as a Head of Department, coordinator, subject lead, or senior teacher.
- Experience in a CBSE curriculum school.
- Good command of English, both spoken and written.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, planning, and team coordination skills.
- Ability to support teachers in improving pedagogy, classroom practice, and student outcomes.
- Familiarity with UAE teaching frameworks and school quality expectations.
- Strong understanding of curriculum planning, assessment, academic tracking, and intervention support.
- Professional, organized, and able to work closely with school leaders and teaching teams.
- Must be available in the UAE for interview.
